About Aware Recovery Care of Maine
Aware Recovery Care of Maine, now part of Renew Health + Recovery, provides in-home addiction treatment for people in the South Portland area and across Maine. Instead of asking clients to move into a facility, they bring an all-inclusive program into the home through a mix of in-person team visits and virtual sessions. Care is built for long-term recovery and moves through four phases. They treat alcohol and opioid use disorders as well as stimulants, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methamphetamine, ketamine, marijuana, hallucinogens, and other substances.
Each client works with a Care Coordinator, a nurse or social worker who builds the treatment plan, arranges a psychiatric evaluation, and links in outside providers such as a primary care doctor. Client Recovery Advisors provide peer support, connect clients to community recovery resources, and run non-punitive drug screens. They also help with goals in areas like work, education, legal issues, and relationships. Clients meet virtually with a psychotherapist to work on stress, self-esteem, communication, and negative thinking, and families can join the process through Family Systems Therapy. Medication support includes a virtual detox that typically lasts five to seven days with daily provider check-ins, followed by optional medication-assisted treatment such as Suboxone or naltrexone for opioids; gabapentin, Antabuse, or naltrexone for alcohol; and GLP-1 medications for clients who qualify.
