About Arbor House

Arbor House is a sixteen-bed supervised community residence in Hannibal, New York, run by Oswego County Opportunities for adults in recovery from substance use. Since opening in 1987, they have offered a safe, structured, and substance-free place to live in the countryside of western Oswego County, a few miles outside the City of Oswego. Staff are on site around the clock, seven days a week, and residents work on the skills they need to stay sober as they prepare to return to the community. The program is licensed by the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports and is non-smoking.

Arbor House is a recovery residence rather than a clinical treatment site, so residents attend substance use treatment at local community-based outpatient agencies while living in the house. Residents are also connected with local support groups and other community resources. Once someone shows they can stay abstinent without 24/7 staffing, they can move into the Chemical Dependence Supportive Living Program, a set of apartments on the east side of Oswego where staff continue to offer guidance and assistance. Referrals require a substance use assessment completed by a qualified health professional within the past year. Applicants must be homeless or living somewhere that makes recovery difficult, and they cannot have an active communicable disease.
