About Andrews Behavioral Healthcare

Andrews Behavioral Health is a nonprofit governmental agency in Tyler, Texas, serving as the Local Mental Health Authority for Smith, Henderson, Rains, Van Zandt, and Wood counties. They have provided mental health, substance use, and developmental disability care across East Texas since 1968. As a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic, they serve people regardless of their ability to pay, reaching more than 12,000 residents each year. For substance use disorders, they offer outpatient counseling and group therapy, along with crisis care, treatment for adults with severe mental illness, services for youth ages 3 to 18, and programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Their care is grounded in trauma-informed practice and a Zero Suicide commitment, and staff are trained in Mental Health First Aid to spot warning signs early. Peer specialists with lived experience work alongside clients in recovery, and a 24/7 crisis team responds both in person and through mobile outreach. The Andrews Diversion Center offers screening and short-term stabilization for people in a behavioral health crisis when an emergency room or jail isn’t the right place, then connects them to ongoing care. They also run an integrated clinic in Tyler with primary care and pharmacy services, plus a Green Zone program where veterans dealing with PTSD and other challenges can find support among fellow veterans.
