About Anchorage Inc

The Anchorage is a Christ-centered, long-term residential recovery ministry in Leesburg, Georgia, near Albany, serving men and women struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. A Sunday school class at Albany’s First United Methodist Church founded them in 1953, and they expanded beyond alcohol to all substances in 1987. They hold that a relationship with Jesus Christ is the foundation of lasting recovery, and they pair biblical discipleship with counseling across 96 beds on two campuses: 56 for men and 40 for women. Because they rely on donations and accept no federal or state funding, the first phase costs only a one-time $40 admission fee, which puts long-term care within reach of people who couldn’t otherwise afford it.

Treatment unfolds in two phases. The 180-day first phase combines Bible study, chapel, individual counseling, 12-step work, group recovery classes, daily work duties, community outreach, and life skills training, with no visits or phone calls for the first 30 days. The optional 240-day second phase prepares residents to return to family and work life: they find full-time jobs, open bank accounts, budget toward debts and child support, work toward a GED if needed, and find an AA or NA sponsor while earning privileges such as a phone, a vehicle, and weekend passes. Men pay $100 a week during this phase and women contribute 25% of their earnings, and applicants must already be detoxed, medically cleared, free of co-occurring disorders, and without violent or sexual charges.
