Allen’s Family Counseling Center is an outpatient behavioral health and substance use counseling practice in Chicago’s River North neighborhood that has served individuals and families for more than seven years. They take a trauma-informed, culturally responsive approach and work with people facing alcohol and drug use, relapse, and co-occurring conditions such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Their care for addiction includes substance use assessments, outpatient counseling, and an Intensive Outpatient Program for people who need more structure than weekly therapy but don’t require a residential stay. They also serve veterans, survivors of domestic violence, people who have recently been incarcerated or are justice-involved, and anyone needing DUI evaluations or court-ordered counseling, with sliding scale fees and Medicaid accepted.

Treatment combines individual, group, and family therapy with relapse prevention planning, and clinicians draw on CBT, DBT-informed skills, motivational interviewing, and trauma therapies such as CPT, Prolonged Exposure, and EMDR. The IOP centers on group work and skill-building around emotional regulation, communication, and managing cravings, alongside support for co-occurring mental health conditions. Specialty groups address topics such as trauma and addiction, nightlife and party drug use with a harm reduction option, service industry burnout, and LGBTQIA+ affirming support, and many groups are offered virtually for $25 per session to cash-pay and sliding scale clients. Most services, including SUD treatment, DUI education, and partner abuse intervention programs, are available through telehealth or a hybrid in-person and online format, and they also provide Narcan training and 24/7 access to a live counselor.
