About Alcohol and Drug Freedom Center of
The Freedom Center, listed here as the Alcohol and Drug Freedom Center, is a nonprofit outpatient behavioral health and prevention provider in Mount Vernon, Ohio, that has served children, adolescents, and adults since 1977. They treat substance use disorders alongside milder mental health concerns such as mood, anxiety, and trauma-related conditions, including co-occurring issues. Care is offered through assessments, standard outpatient counseling, and an intensive outpatient program (IOP), with family support and a sliding-fee subsidy scale. Their approach is person-centered and trauma-informed, built on evidence-based practices and on meeting each person where they are in their readiness to change.
Adults who need more structure can join the IOP, which meets three times a week for three-hour group sessions using the Living in Balance curriculum, along with individual counseling and case management. The standard outpatient track follows the Matrix Model, drawing on Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and includes drug and breath testing, a Contemplation group for people still weighing their use, men’s relapse prevention, and a men’s trauma group using Seeking Safety. Project WORTH is a women-only program offering its own intensive group, Seeking Safety, the 12-session Beyond Trauma curriculum, and a women’s anger management group. They also provide EMDR therapy for trauma and a Strengthening Families program that helps relatives understand addiction and mental illness as treatable diseases.
