About Alaska Behavioral Health
Alaska Behavioral Health is a community behavioral health organization based in Anchorage, with additional clinics in Wasilla and Fairbanks, and they have served Alaskans for more than 50 years. Their focus is mental health care for children, teens, young adults, and adults, and their youth services address mental health challenges with or without co-occurring substance use. Care ranges from outpatient therapy, same-day walk-in crisis support, and telehealth to intensive outpatient programming for kids and teens, partial hospitalization for both youth and adults, intensive community services, and an adult mental health residential program. They bill insurance and won’t turn anyone away because they can’t pay, and their integrated model pairs therapy with psychiatry and primary care.
Therapy is grounded in evidence-based and trauma-focused approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, TF-CBT, EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and the ARC Framework. Their Alaska Child Trauma Center belongs to the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, and families of young children can take part in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, PC-CARE, or the Little Tykes preschool-style program for ages 3 to 5, while adolescents with eating disorders can receive Family Based Treatment. Adults have access to case management, peer support, vocational services, and a staffed peer lounge, and young people can build job and independent living skills through Alaska Seeds of Change, a hydroponic greenhouse program. They also run the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic, which offers confidential care to post-9/11 veterans, active duty service members, and their families.
