About Akeela Inc

Akeela Inc is a long-standing Anchorage-based nonprofit that has offered substance use and behavioral health treatment across Alaska for about 50 years. They treat adults whose main concern is substance use and address co-occurring issues such as anxiety, depression, and trauma within the same treatment plan. Their care spans residential treatment, intensive outpatient, and general outpatient services, all licensed by the Alaska Division of Behavioral Health. For people who need detox first, staff help arrange that step before admission.

In Anchorage, Akeela House Recovery Center is a 38-bed co-ed residential program, while Stepping Stones is a 15-bed residential program where mothers can stay with their young children during treatment. Residents follow a structured daily routine of individual and group therapy, skill-building, and peer support, with psychiatric care and practical help on housing, employment, and aftercare planning. Stays are based on clinical need and can last up to 180 days, and discharge planning starts early so clients can move smoothly into outpatient care. For opioid recovery, an on-staff psychiatrist provides medication management alongside counseling, and a dedicated women and families program offers additional gender-specific support.
