About Agave Ridge Behavioral

Agave Ridge Behavioral Hospital is a 100-bed psychiatric and addiction hospital in Mesa, Arizona, serving adolescents ages 12 to 17 and adults 18 and older from the greater Phoenix area and beyond. They treat substance use disorders, including addictions to alcohol, heroin, fentanyl, prescription painkillers, and benzodiazepines, along with mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. Because many patients face both at once, they treat co-occurring conditions together. Care moves from on-site medical detox, which typically lasts seven to 10 days under a certified addictionologist, to acute inpatient stabilization of about five to 13 days, and then to an intensive outpatient program (IOP).

Every patient starts with a thorough evaluation that shapes a personalized plan, which may include basic medical care, medication management, and detox support as needed. Inpatient days are structured around about four group sessions daily, covering relapse prevention, coping skills, goal setting, and life skills, with counselors drawing on cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, psychoeducation, and 12-Step programming. For adolescents in opioid withdrawal, the team may prescribe Suboxone to ease symptoms. The IOP meets three days a week for about eight weeks, so patients can keep up with work, school, or family while continuing group therapy, and each person leaves with an aftercare plan that includes referrals to further services or community resources.
